Busy Fit: Extra Effort Goes a Long Way

Aura Avenue Chelse K & Ivy CSometimes life gets in the way of the gym, our heath and our good intentions. Here’s a few ways to still get in a good burn but not have to take time out of your schedule to do it. Incorporating ways to get in cardio aka staying Busy Fit as I like to call it! I recently started a fad in my life where I make myself to squats each time I want to check my Instagram feed! It keeps me from feeling like I am constantly in a motionless activity where the only strain I get is from my eyes trying to read captions to photos. I’ve come up with and found several other fun ways to stay Busy Fit without actually taking extra time to get in cardio or weight training. Habits become results people!

Busy Fit Tip 1– Leave dumbbells at the bottom of the stairs. Each time you have to walk up the stairs, pick up the dumbbells and to curls while you bring them with you. When it’s time to go back down, pick them up and carry them down. Pretty straight forward. Easy!

Busy Fit Tip 2 – You should be drinking 8+ glasses of water a day. If you’re drinking as much water as you should be, you probably take frequent trips to the bathroom. Take advantage of the fact that you’re up and about! Try doing several squats every time you use the bathroom. Who knows, you could end up doing 100 squats by the end of the day. Bonus if you squat during the entire process. Snaps for skills!

Busy Fit Tip 3 – Try to not sit while you chat on the phone. Instead, try getting up and walking around while you talk. You can pace around your home, office or if the weather is nice enough, take a stroll outside. For the amount of time I spend on my phone I could really make a difference if I use those minutes mindfully.

Busy Fit Tip 4 – Wake up 10 minutes earlier than usual and jump-start your day. Use the time to practice yoga or do crunches/push ups before hopping in the shower. Being active first thing in the morning will eventually stimulate your mind and body to become habitual.

Busy Fit Tip 5 – You don’t have to feel as if you’re wasting your time when you’re waiting in a long line. First of all, you’re standing, as opposed to sitting, so you’re already ahead of the game. Put in the extra effort by doing some simple calve raises – just raise onto your tippy toes, and lower yourself back down. Alternatively, you could do some ab flexes. Repeat one or both until you’re at the end of the line.

Busy Fit Tip 6 – Park far away. Errands and daily duties can be extremely time consuming. Next time you have to go somewhere, park further away from your destination, or if you live close enough, walk or bike. Every trip counts.

Busy Fit Tip 7 – Does the TV (or Social Media) ever suck you in? Don’t worry, we all have the same problem. You can easily incorporate physical activity into an otherwise motionless activity. During commercials or loading pages, you don’t even have to get up; you just have to remember you abs and legs! You can do flutter kicks, bicycles, hip raises, scissor kicks.. anything that fits your body’s needs best. Bonus if you leave dumbbells on the coffee table as a reminder. You’ll be amazed how much you can do within 2-3 minute sets! Don’t forget to add in stretching too.

Tip #8 – Practicing good posture is a great way to stay fit all day long. My mom taught me this at a very young age, but I am so thankful because I truly do think my core is stronger from the process. Proper posture helps strengthen your back, ab and chest muscles. A strong core will protect you against workout or even office related injuries. Practice while driving in your car, sitting at your desk and especially while on the couch. Here’s a YOUTUBE video to remind yourself how to obtain good posture by our friend Kaitlynn Osberg who is a licensed massage therapist and constantly sees the strain of every day life in her clients aches and pains. Ps she gives great massages!

Tip #9 – Reusable shopping bags. First, don’t forget to bring them with you. Second, instead of placing your bags in your grocery/shopping cart, carry them! Do some bicep curls with the bags in each arm while you are loading up. You’ll be helping the environment and your arms, all at the same time. Remember you can use reusable shopping bags for more than just groceries. I need to buy THESE cute reusable shopping bags for your Busy Fit life!
