Has your fitness routine expired? Should you stick with it or say goodbye?
Did you get in too deep with a trainer and can’t find a way out? Fear not, many of us go through similar situations when it comes to a lull in our workout and health routine. As of recent, Ivy and I have been lucky enough to recharge and spark a new interest for the love of a new challenge. We have something to look forward to when it comes to fitness. The Haute Room has been our vice for our winter workout blues.
Sometimes a fresh perspective is just what’s needed for a renewed positive body image, strength or booty gains! Here’s a rundown of what we’ve learned looking back on the reasons CHANGE is good and how we broke up with our expired fitness routine!
FITNESS ROUTINE BREAK UP
Pre-breakup: The signs.
You are just simply uninterested. The things you used to do just aren’t fun or enjoyable anymore.
Missing scheduled dates. You skip out on scheduled workouts or training sessions, even when you’ve paid for them.
You’re avoiding a trainer, gym buddy or instructor at the gym. You go to the gym when you know you won’t be hassled by friends or trainers you used to work out with. They may even be slimmer or have gained a ton of muscle mass during the time you’ve slacked which makes you even less excited to meet up with them.
You feel sluggish. You’ve been tired during the week, your not eating right and you don’t make time to focus on your health because it takes all of your energy.
Plateaued weight. You are stuck 10lbs above or below and even though focusing on the number isn’t what matters, you know you could be making effort to love yourself more.
Making the call: “We’re over.”
Do it face to face. Hold yourself accountable best by not texting, not emailing and not just unsubscribing from your routine or fitness program. This will hold you accountable to the facts and with the reasons behind your breakup. Write them down and say them out loud before you go to the studio or to your trainer and part ways.
Use Transparency & honesty are best for a guilt free breakup. Be honest no matter the circumstance. If you can’t afford a price increase, if you found another gym you like better, if you found a new trainer you like better! Don’t be afraid to give real reasons to make a full cut.
Post-breakup: Rebound woes.
Stay focused on your health & needs. Make a commitment to YOU and what you need in your weekly/daily life to feel healthy. Whether that is 30 minutes of cardio a day by running around the block and doing a backyard workout, yoga in the morning, a juice to start your day. Start the habit and it will stick.
Don’t let others pressure you into anything you don’t want to do or can’t afford. We’ve all been there but ultimately you are in control and the ball is in your court.
Explore your options before making a long term commitment. There are so many great new workout challenges and studios that are out there.
