Good Morning Rituals
Good morning beautiful! Did your alarm just go off? How many times did you hit snooze before rolling out of bed with fuzzy eyes and a moan or two? Well I am here to enlighten you with some wonderful morning rituals that can help you revamp your morning into something you look forward to, instead of something you’d rather sleep through. These methods will help your days run smoother, boost your energy, and set you up for success!

1. Wake up with gratitude

The moment that alarm goes off, your day has begun. Initial thoughts may be about the meeting you have to prep for or the dream you just had. But before you let your mind get too far ahead of the moment, pause and list three things you are grateful for. This habit will not only raise your vibrational energy and allow more opportunity to come your way, but you will also get out of bed feeling like you’ve already accomplished something. This is a morning to-do I never skip!

2. Make the bed

For some of you this may seem like a tedious task or a waste of time. Why make the bed when you’re just going to crawl back in later? But by simply making the bed in the morning, you are reducing stress and setting yourself up for a more organized life. The difference between the feeling you get when you walk into a room in which the bed is made VS not is huge! Think about how good it feels walking into a nice hotel room. You feel calm and at ease. Making the bed also gives you a sense of accomplishment, which sets you up for success and productivity throughout the day.

3. Drink a glass of water upon rising

I am a crazy person when it comes to morning fluids. I drink a glass of water, one of my morning elixers, a glass of green juice, and kombucha every single day. I realize that this is not sustainable for most people (although I highly recommend it!) so if there is one thing I recommend above all else, it’s to drink a glass of pure water first thing in the morning. During your sleep, your body is working hard to detoxify and heal, which causes natural dehydration. Replenishing your body with purified water will help get things moving properly. I suggest squeezing in half a lemon as well!

4. Stretch, even if only for 5 minutes

Sometimes I do this while I’m still in bed. I like to stretch and press into the mattress like a cat! But
more often than not, I dedicate 15-20 minutes to a light yoga session, just to get the juices flowing and the joints moving. Hip opening stretches are the best in the
morning (and throughought the day) because your hips are the most important part of your longevity. We store so much stress and weight in our hips, it’s important to keep them loose and mobile.

5. Eat breakfast

And make it a good one. Perhaps I sound like a broken record, but breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. It’s your brain food! How do you expect your brain to function properly without vital nutrients? I am obsessed with breakfast. Again, it makes me feel a sense of accomplishment and it gives me the confidence I need to tackle the day. This is probably the most important morning ritual to keep for your overall health and wellbeing. Don’t skip!

Bonus: The Morning Pages

If you are seeking to expand your creativity, I suggest beginning your day with the morning pages. The morning pages is a unique writing tool that has been proven to increase creativity and remove writers block. It’s a way to learn more about yourself and to start your day by being creative. You can read more about the morning pages here or by reading “The Artist Way” by Julia Cameron. I’ve been using this method for one week now and I am hooked.

I know how precious sleep is and how hard it can be to climb out of bed in the dark and cold winter months. But I highly suggest getting up one hour before you normally would, and start incorporating these morning rituals into your routine. Try it for two weeks and I promise you’ll see a difference in your energy and overall happiness. Let me know how it goes in the comments below!
